Forty Acres Pharmacy

Providing quick and reliable support, Forty Acres Pharmacy stands as a primary resource for The University of Texas at Austin community. Licensed pharmacists offer individualized counseling, explaining how and when to take medications and highlighting potential side effects or interactions. This approach benefits students, faculty, and staff who seek efficient prescription services.

For added convenience, the pharmacy carries assorted food, drinks, school supplies, and personal care items. This wide selection saves time for busy individuals, allowing them to pick up essentials in one location.

Faculty and staff can discuss their immunization needs by scheduling appointments with immunization-certified pharmacists. Using guidelines set by reputable health authorities, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) at http://www.cdc.gov, the pharmacy offers vaccines such as Hepatitis A, Pneumonia, and more. Students should contact University Health Services at http://healthyhorns.utexas.edu/ or 512-475-8301 for their immunization requirements. For Vaccine Information Statements, see http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/hcp/vis/index.html.

Immunizations often qualify for coverage under common prescription insurance plans. The pharmacy accepts policies from Aetna, most Blue Cross/Blue Shield plans, Cigna, CVS/Caremark, Express Scripts, Humana, OptumRx, Tricare, and several others. Notable exceptions include Scott & White, Kaiser Permanente, and Medicaid. If a copay arises, payment is due at pickup. Prescription cards must include fields such as RxBIN, RxPCN, ID#, and Group# to ensure proper billing.

Forty Acres Pharmacy now serves as a Medication Take-Back Drop site. This initiative prevents misuse, abuse, and poisonings. It also protects the environment through proper disposal methods. Only the person for whom the medication was prescribed may place the items directly into the secured Blue medSAFE container. Due to legal restrictions, the pharmacy cannot accept loads from clinics, nursing homes, church groups, or other healthcare facilities. Approved medications then undergo incineration, following guidelines from agencies like the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). This program received support from a UT Green Fee grant and excludes illicit substances such as marijuana, heroin, or LSD. For additional information, call 512-471-1824.

Individuals can safely discard prescription medications (both controlled and uncontrolled), non-prescription treatments, vitamins, supplements, herbals, pet medications, and nebulizer solutions. However, items such as IV fluid bags, syringes or needles, oxygen tanks, nebulizer machines, and glucometer machines are not accepted for this drop site.
